Halfway Reflection
1. To keep up with the work for this class I've made it a habit to check my Canvas on a regular basis, usually daily just to make sure there are no assignments I am forgetting about. As a backup I also use an app called Wunderlist, with which you can create various lists with due dates, notes, etc. I input all of my assignments into separate lists for each of my classes and check them off as I complete them. It's also helpful to set up notification reminders when an assignment due date is coming up.
2. I definitely got a bit discouraged when it comes to the interview assignments. There are several reasons for this, including my limited personal network in my area which makes it difficult to find people to interview as well as my limited schedule since I'm working full time and taking classes full time. I primarily chose online classes because of my schedule restrictions so that I could do my work on my own time, but when it comes to finding people to interview, that's very hard to do in my situation, but I'll continue to persevere and do my best anyway since I need to pass the class.
3. Here are 3 tips I'd give to students looking to take this class:
- Create a realistic schedule and use notification tools to remind you when assignments are coming up.
- If you ever find yourself bored or having nothing to do, then work ahead.
- Think about the consequences of your actions, or more commonly, your inaction. Yes it is a pain to do some assignments, but just think about how much more of a pain it will be if you have to take the class all over again.

Damien,
ReplyDeleteSetting up notifications for assignments would actually really help me and I might start doing that myself. I also struggle with the interview assignments, and I'm sure plenty of other people have faced problems or haven't been able to totally complete them either, so don't stress! Your last tip is similar to one of mine. Basically just do the work. Sometimes work sucks, but you have to put up with it, and these assignments aren't so bad once you just sit down and do them. Overall good post and keep up the good work!
Hey Damian,
ReplyDeleteI too have learned to check canvas pretty much daily, but I have not thought to upload the assignments onto a checklist on my phone. I think I am going to download the Wunderlist app to help me keep my assignments organized. I too felt that the interviews gave me the hardest time and at times i thought about giving up (of course I knew i could not). I also like your tips for future students and feel that setting a realistic pace for yourself is key! Also, great picture/quote! Great post
Hi Damian, I like that idea about how when you have nothing to do work ahead. Im definitely going to try that out myself. The interview assignments also discouraged me alot as far as I didnt bother doing them. However I should because it would have given me a wider prospective and you can learn alot just by talking to someone. I never heard about Wunderlist until now, I think I might have to give that a try as I need help with organization.
ReplyDeleteHi Damien, I really think that app you use is super cool, I definitely got to try it out myself.
ReplyDeleteWe're finally half way through the class, its great to see how far we've come and where we need to go from here.
Damien,
ReplyDeleteI am in the same boat as you. I am a UF online student and work full-time. During the summer I only took one course but usually I'm full-time work and school. Good job, seriously, it takes a lot of self disciple and stress to get through it. I struggle with the interview part as well. Some people don't want me to record them, so that hinders me even more sometimes from completing the assignments. Keep up the good work!
